Wineries Of Badacsony
Visible from afar is the imposing 438m high Badacsony, an example of a volcanic mountain with steep basalt sides. From its top, there is a splendid view over the charming countryside with its forests, the western Balato,n and the Tapolca Basin. They all attract a large number of visitors and holidaymakers during the summer and autumn months. An extensive holiday complex has grown up in recent years with guest houses, apartments, and a newly-built four-star hotel.
The region is ideal for families with children, but elderly couples and young travellers can also find a way to have a memorable holiday here. Enjoy a sunny day on the beach or visit a family-owned wine cellar and caress yourself with a glass of wine: ’Olaszrizling’ or ’Szürkebarát’, two of the best-known varieties cultivated in Badacsony. Take a jeep taxi ride and admire the marvellous scenery, or if you are keen on hiking, climb up to the top of the mountain to explore the Kisfaludy viewing tower.
Or just walk along the basalt stone path known as Római út because, according to the legend, it was laid down by the Romans. Museums and small chapels come across your way. Almond, fig, and poplar trees give the landscape an almost Mediterranean appearance.
Several events and festivals make your stay more exciting, and before leaving, don’t forget to take a boat ride on Lake Balaton to make sure that you’ll have to come back thanks to the diverse nature, beautiful vineyards, and the cultural heritage of this area.
